6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Trends 1)       The decline of Pine Tree planting in Florida. a.        Where You Found It: I work for a company that is the largest pine tree planting company in North Florida. I am involved at an executive level at managing the planting of over 8000 acres a year. These are the trends I have observed. b.       What Leads You To Believe That An Opportunity Might Exist: Pine trees have to be planted at a certain time of the year and at certain temperatures in order for them to grow properly. We have found that the climate condition for this has been slowly eroding for many years. This will cause less viable healthy trees to be able to be grown and a shortage of Pine straw, the main product of pine trees. c.        The Prototypical Customer: Customers of pine straw exist at every level so the Prototypical customer would be another company that resells the pine straw to the final consumer. This opportunity would be in a supplier role to a large company that uses pine s

5A – Identifying Local Opportunities

1) The title of the article: County looks into designating truck route: Front Page and 10A The link to the article.: http://ufdcimages.uflib.ufl.edu/UF/00/02/84/22/01623/04-10-2019.pdf A description of the story, in your own words: Live Oak is a small town in the North Florida that is placed just south of I-10. I-10 actually curves around Live Oak and adds about 15 minutes to the commute passing through the area. Its geographic position means that traffic could passthrough Live Oak’s main roads US-129 and US-90 to save time and to avoid 2 agriculture check points. This new ordinance isn’t for allowing traffic on these roads but is actually for allowing traffic on a similar bypass road in the county. A description of the problem presented in the story: According to the city, who opposes traffic along the city center, The increase in commercial traffic would be dangerous and bad for businesses. The ordnance in question could “snowball” and “open the gates” for more rules in favo

2A: Bug List

Bug List  1.   Interior doors aren’t a perfect fit to the door frame which allows light and sounds to pass through. As someone who sleeps in complete darkness, this keeps me up. a.         This exists because doors are hung and created individually from the door frame and therefore are not exact fits. This is because it is easier to install and build doors with some space for error. (i.e. wiggly room) 2.         Most cheaper furniture builds, like the kind you find at Walmart or Ikea, wobble. More expensive furniture wobbles less but because of its material and weight, not necessarily because its better put together. a.         A Joint sufficiently tight enough to eliminate wobbly furniture doesn’t come simply enough to be assembled at home for most furniture products. 3.        HDMI cables are thick, rigid and unsightly. For most modern entertainment set-ups, multiple cables are needed and they create bulky clutter behind most TVs a.         A cheap wireless HDMI substitute does

4A: Opportunity Belief

Robert Rodriguez May 22, 2019 ENT3003 Prof. Pryor Opportunity Belief I believe there is an unmet need when it comes to the marketing of student programs and business ideas. The community of the University of Florida is often at the forefront of ideas, innovation, or social events; however, we lack a uniform, effective way to communicate across the community. There is an opportunity to create a forum to interact across interest groups in the UF community. This need is present among starting businesses, artist, social groups and established companies. This need has always existed and been solved in other ways, but not to the personal level here at the University of Florida.  #1 : Artist struggling to gain followers.                Question: How long have you been in music?                Answer: Three Years now, but I have known my bandmates for years before. We came from the same small town. Question: Where and where do you play?                Answer : Usually sma

3A: Entrepreneurship Story

Robert Rodriguez May 21, 2019 ENT3003 Prof. Pryor Entrepreneurship Story My Entrepreneurship story begins in a way that many other American stories of Entrepreneurship have, Immigration. Though, perhaps uniquely, my family has entangled itself with the Entrepreneurial spirit long before my father eventual Immigration to the United States. My family is from El Salvador, a small tropical country in Central America. My grandmother was a hardworking woman who founded many entrepreneurial ventures throughout her life. She ran a small store in the front room of her home, where my mother would come to work, she sold food and handmade dairy products, she bought, sold and cared for cattle in a country that didn’t allow women to attend the public cattle markets. My grandmother’s most significant business venture was leveraging her US residency to transport food, money, gifts, and products from El Salvador to the US and back.
